Environmental Living Day Program

At Fort Ross

Thank you for your interest in the Fort Ross State Historic Park ‘Environmental Living Day Program’. An ELDP is a program developed for those classes that wish to come for a full day with a hands on based curriculum geared toward living history. This packet contains your reservation form, a bill for your school or personal use, optional schedules, and this informational page.

It is expected that you study Russian American Company curriculum in the classroom, and that your class will come to Fort Ross with character names, role-play, and in costume. A manual will be provided for you to use as a guideline once you have sent in your reservation form and confirmation fee of $100. Being familiar with the overnight program is a great advantage for those preparing for a day trip, although not necessary. Those who have never been onsite with a class must pick from one of the agendas attached. We welcome your ideas and needs for your class, however we will need to review your agenda before you come on site so we may offer suggestions for a smooth program. Park staff will assist all programs.

Other Curriculum material is available here.

What students are saying about the day program.

The fee per student is $10.00.  The confirmation fee is $100, which is non-refundable. The confirmation fee is applied to your total class fees.

We look forward to working with you and your students. If you have questions please contact us by phone at 707.847.4777 or frinterp@mcn.org

The manual has clear instructions.

Militia will start fires and carry water for cooks, will map the fort, and make possible bags or rope. Militia will/may carry around militia gear: i.e. Muskets, swords, and other accoutrements. This will be handed out after fires and water needs are taken care of.

Gardeners will work in the garden and make baskets.

Artisans will work on a pre-decided work project and roll candles for everyone.

Cooks will get necessary gear out of ELP storeroom.  Cook only one dish, (such as a soup), bread, and butter (which may be made onsite).

1:30
Eat late lunch.  Clean up, put all gear away.

2:00
Cannon firing with open discussion of the fort and its inhabitants.

Cars drive down to fort compound to load gear. Employees (students) and Officers (parents) dance the troika if time permits with Company Manager (teacher). After dance or sketching, the Company walks to the parking lot.
